HISTORY
Zeehan is known as the Silver City and had a population of
10,000 people in its heyday. Dame Nellie Melba sang at the
Gaiety Theatre which is still a lovely old building.
Today there are still fine old buildings in the main street,
showing a hint of the grandeur of yesteryear.
The West Coast Pioneer Museum is well worth a visit. Leave
time to enjoy the tale it tells of life in the early days in a
booming mining town.
There were about 40 pubs here in the early days and the Hotel
Cecil was one of theses early pubs. It is the only one that has
continuously operated since it opened its doors in 1900. |
